Source water: Two upland Finger Lakes, Hemlock and Canadice, about 28 miles south of the city in Livingston and Ontario counties, used continuously since 1876. The city supplements this with Lake Ontario water bought from the Monroe County Water Authority and treated at its Shoremont plant on Dewey Avenue. Which you receive depends on the season: some customers get Hemlock water, some Lake Ontario water, and some a blend of the two.
