Safety and insurance

How we work in an occupied building, and the paperwork a board or landlord will ask for.

Insurance

Cover details are published here once recorded. If a building or a landlord needs a certificate naming them as additional insured, ask before booking, because that document is usually required as part of an alteration approval rather than on the day.

Working with the water off

Most installations involve closing a shutoff valve, and in older properties that valve is the single most common thing to fail. We check it at the survey. Where it will not close fully, replacing it becomes part of the scope, and in some cases the water authority has to shut off at the street first.

We tell you the expected window without water before the day so you can plan around it, and we fit a bypass wherever the equipment allows, so future servicing does not require the same shutdown.

Drilling, dust, and making good

Drilling a worktop for a dedicated tap produces dust and, in stone, water. We sheet the area, extract at the tool, and clean before leaving. Granite and quartz need a diamond core and a slower approach, which is why we identify the material at the survey and quote it separately rather than discovering it on the day.

Where we remove equipment, we cap and make good the plumbing so the property is left sound.

Commissioning and leaving the system safe

New carbon and membranes carry manufacturing residue, so the first volume through a system is flushed to drain rather than used. Pressure testing happens under working pressure before we leave, and we return to the joints once they have settled, since compression fittings occasionally need a further turn.

Where a system is fitted against a confirmed microbiological problem, we will not describe the water as safe on the strength of the installation alone. That needs a post-installation laboratory test, and we will tell you to get one.

Occupied and regulated premises

In homes with children or pets we keep tools and open pipework attended or isolated, and we do not leave a property with an uncapped line.

In restaurants, medical rooms, and schools, access is planned around the operation rather than around us. That usually means early mornings, out of hours, or holiday periods. Sites that have to keep maintenance records receive a written log of each visit with what was changed and the readings taken.

What we will not do

We do not carry out well construction, casing repair, or pump work, which is a separately licensed trade. We do not carry out plumbing work requiring a permit in a jurisdiction where we cannot pull one. We do not install equipment against a problem that has not been confirmed, and we will say so rather than taking the work.
