Source water: Wayne runs its own distribution network and buys every gallon that moves through it. The supply comes from the North Jersey District Water Supply Commission, which draws on the Wanaque and Monksville reservoirs and can pump from the Pompton and Ramapo rivers up into Wanaque when it needs to, with an emergency connection to Newark behind that. The division serves roughly 55,000 people. Point View Reservoir sits inside Wayne, 465 acres of it, and is the largest of the four reservoirs belonging to the Passaic Valley Water Commission, but it is not a Wayne source. The water beside the town is not the water in the town's taps, which is a distinction worth making here because almost everyone assumes the opposite.
